Bring the family to the Festival!
12-06-2017
The Festival is also for kids! Every day during the 11-day event, you’ll find everything a family wants and needs, all over the site.
The Little School of Jazz presented by Rio Tinto — For 29 years, this has been the place to be, for a mutual performers-kids love affair! It’s a dynamic, interactive fun-packed musical initiation in the company of famed Festival mascot Ste-Cat and Les Zélèves, a vocal harmony quintet led by Victor-Jacques Ménard, alongside James Gelfand and his quartet. Complexe Desjardins’ Grande-Place, every day from June 29 to July 8, 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The Rio Tinto Musical Park features a wide array of interactive activities conceived around the theme of music, in a space designed for families! Play meets technology in playful and musical installations that are fanciful and fantastic, including a giant piano, water games, a sandbox, play structures and inflatables.
The Rio Tinto Family Club welcomes kids every day from noon to 10 p.m. with Educazoo, face painting, build and play with marionettes, work with moldable wax, experience an initiation to the circus arts and Musée d’art contemporain workshops.
- Éducazoo
Discover domestic and exotic animals! Children can discover a wide variety of lizards, snakes, tortoises, amphibians, giant African millipedes, ferrets, chinchillas, hedgehogs, mice.
- Creating and handling marionettes
Children can create their own marionettes out of felt and learn how to handle and manipulate them.
- Introduction to the circus arts
Introduction to juggling and beginners-level balancing, easy enough that even the youngest children can join in the activity.
- Wax workshops
Each child takes home his or her own personalized hand-shaped wax creation.
- Musical awakening presented by Jeunesses Musicales du Canada
Conducted in group sessions, our musical discovery classes allow children to explore the rhythmic, melodic and corporeal elements of music. It’s a fun initial introductory encounter with the world of music, helping to develop listening skills, memory, coordination and a musical sensibility.
- MAC workshops
Drawing inspiration from Shary Boyle’s 2007 painting Beast (Highland Series), on display in the exhibition Between Self and Other, festival-goers will paint half-human, half-animal figures that have hair all over. Grrrrrrrrrrr!
The exhibition Between Self and Other will be presented in the MAC until August 20, 2017.
- DIY (continuously from noon until 10 p.m.)
Children can design and create their own badges, pins and maracas using aluminum plates. Fun and gifts for all!
