The organizers of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal are thrilled to have won the Félix award in the prestigious Event of the Year category at the Gala de l'Industrie of l'Adisq held on October 26. This award was for the 40th edition of the Festival that took place from June 27 to July 6, 2019. We want to congratulate all the artists, musicians, and artisans that made this edition of FIJMsuch a success. Hats off to Alain Simard (Founder) and André Ménard (Co-Founder), who retired after presiding over the Festival as it became, according to Guinness World Records, “the world’s largest jazz festival.”
Kudos also to Jacques-André Dupont (ex-Chief Executive Officer, FIJM) and Laurent Saulnier (Vice President, Cultural Event and Festival Programming, Spectra), who brought energy and enthusiasm to the various teams that worked to put together an awesome lineup for this anniversary edition.
We also wish to express our gratitude towards the public and private collaborators who supported the Festival over the past 40 years; particularly the presenting sponsor of FIJM, TD Bank Group, and co-presenting sponsor Rio Tinto, as well as our public partners, the Government of Canada, the Government of Québec, the City of Montréal, and Tourisme Montréal.
Most of all, a huge thank you to every music lover; to the artists, musicians, and festival-goers both local and abroad who have made FIJM an essential event for 40 years.
After presenting a digital edition this year (for the first time in the history of the Festival!), which met international success, the 41st edition will be worth the wait!
We’re eager to get together with all of you again, and to remind ourselves of many wonderful memories, here is the video of the 40th edition. https://youtu.be/D3XBifPSP1g |
