João Gilberto, the father of Bossa Nova, died on July 6, 2019. Caetano Veloso said his voice was the only thing more beautiful than silence. Bïa learned he had passed away while she was on stage at Festival international de jazz de Montréal. She dedicated a song to him, and thousands of voices in front of her sang sorrowfully. A year later, she is dedicating a whole concert to him “Desafinado,” “Garota de Ipanema,” “One note samba” — all the best titles from Gilberto’s songbook for a suave, superb night.
