The program of the Jazz All-Year Round series presented by TD just got even better! Jazz singer-pianist Diana Krall, Swedish folk singer José González, English electronica trio GoGo Penguin and singer Martin Goyette will take centre stage in autumn 2017 and winter 2018.
Diana Krall, Turn Up The Quiet Tour (additional show) — November 29 and 30, 8 p.m., Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, PdA — A world-class jazz singer, winner of 5 Grammy and 8 Juno Awards, with 9 albums certified gold, 3 certified platinum and 7 certified multiplatinum, Diana Krall returns to Montreal this autumn to present her latest opus, Turn Up The Quiet—hailed immediately by the critics upon its release. Produced by the late Tommy LiPuma, the album brings peerless finesse and sensitivity to revisiting the American jazz vocal repertoire (Cole Porter, John Mercer…): the work of an artist at the zenith of her art, with a devoted audience breathlessly waiting to discover it.
José González — February 10, 8 p.m., Monument-National — Recognized for his collaborations with trip-hop group Zero 7, Argentinean-Swedish singer-songwriter José González is considered one of the standard-bearers of neo-indie-folk. Armed with his acoustic guitar, he digs into the heart of ’70s folk, weaving musical sketches that send spellbinding arpeggios slipping into gorgeously muted melodies and evocative lyrics. Guaranteed aural pleasure!
GoGo Penguin — October 23, 8 p.m., Gesù — Powering through an electro-laced acoustic jazz, GoGo Penguin have created a unique musical DNA that ranks them among the newest global jazz stars. With their latest album, Man Made Object, released by the prestigious Blue Note label and a comprehensive live CV, the group delivers a brilliantly successful fusion of two worlds: the electric subtlety of high-calibre jazz and the rock energy of a group at the height of their powers.
Martin Goyette — October 13, 8 p.m., L’Astral — First and foremost, Martin Goyette advances with an extraordinary voice balancing power and a raw timbre. This singer has won over a devoted audience with a husky “instrument” worthy of the blues and jazz greats. A passionate devotee of those genres but also a fan of funk and soul, he pours his passion into a variety of styles, also blessed with the secret weapon of distinctly strong harmonica skills to match the voice.
