SUMMARY:Ron Carter Concert Solo - Festival International de Jazz de Montréal
DESCRIPTION:RON CARTER CONCERT SOLO\n\nIf the double bass is the cornerstone of jazz beat, then Ron Carter is the crowning glory. Solid, refined, graceful: these are some of the adjectives used to describe the technique of the undisputed master. A brilliant accompanist, he played alongside the likes of Cannonball Adderley and Eric Dolphy before becoming, from 1963 to 1968, a dominating figure in the legendary Miles Davis Quintet. In the 70s, as leader and soloist of his own band, he made a name for himself with the distinct sound of the piccolo bass, a smaller version of the instrument. His duo performance at the 1987 Festival with Jim Hall remains one of the more memorable jazz events. This year, bass boss Carter presents a series of 5 shows beginning with this solo performance: a unique chance to hear talent in its purest form. Jazz with a capital J. \n\nhttp://www.montrealjazzfest.com/program/concert.aspx?id=8613\n
