SUMMARY:Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers - Festival International de Jazz de Montréal
DESCRIPTION:ART BLAKEY AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS\n\nArt Blakey’s career is a fascinating one. Under his guidance, many of the most respected musicians of today learned their trade, and he is responsible for bringing the drums to solo instrument status. At 20, in the lorries, running away from the mines and the steel mills, he demonstrated power and uncommon originality through his subite work with Thelonious Monk. In 1955, he founded the Jazz Messengers, from which would graduate leading lights in music such as Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Keith Jarrett, Chuck Mangione, Branford and Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, etc. After their 1981 and 1985 performances at the Festival, one of the most revered ensembles in the history of jazz returns to grace the Montréal stage. ¸A.
