Musicien, compositeur et orchestrateur, Antonio Carlos Jobim, dans son association fructueuse avec Vinicius de Moraes - dont il fait la connaissance en 1956 - et en compagnie du guitariste Joao Gilberto, participe à la naissance du mouvement bossa-nova. Il y avait eu auparavant Desafinado et Samba de Uma Nota So avec Newton Mendonça et, avec de Moraes, la trame sonore du film Orfeu Negro, de Marcel Camus. La contribution d’Antonio Carlos Jobim à la musique populaire brésilienne ainsi qu’à sa diffusion outre-frontières est incommensurable.
