SUMMARY:Paco de Lucia - Festival International de Jazz de Montréal
DESCRIPTION:PACO DE LUCIA\n(Opening Act: Trio Gitan)\n\nBorn in 1947 in Andalusite info a family of musicians, his own father a guitarist, Paco de Lucia’s career had an early beginning: Scales, counterpoint, technique, discipline. Before long, this prodigy of the flamenco guitar, already highly acclaimed in his own country, had the world literally wrapped around his fingers. North American audiences were introduced to Paco de Lucia through his concerts and recordings in the acoustic guitar trio with Al DiMeola andfohn McLaughlin. His brilliant performances have a universel quality all their own, but more importuntly, they reflect the great beauty of his country’s music. Remember the guitarist in Carlos Saura’s Carmen, and you remember Paco de Lucia. Babik Reinhard, Boulou Férré and Christian Escoudé make up the gypsy trio. You may have recognized these names: Babik and Boulou are the respective sons of Django and Matelot; Christian Escoudé returns to Montréal following his eloquent display of talent in 1984 with Didier Lockwood. For these three guitarists, the goal is not so much a revival of France’s Hot Club era as it is an extension of the gypsy tradition into the music of the eighties. \n\nhttp://www.montrealjazzfest.com/program/concert.aspx?id=6869\n
