Esperanza Spalding

Esperanza Spalding

Her name means "hope" in Spanish, and Esperanza Spalding has already surpassed all of ours! Somewhere between angel and siren, everybody from Princes to Presidents wants her: the Purple One is a fan, and she has already performed at the Obama White House. At once singer, double bassist and composer, her last album, Esperanza, was released to critical raves. At just 24, she’s often cited as a prodigy; at the very least, she’s exquisite, intuitive, hot, and very hip!

Marc-André Sarault
Marc-André Sarault (Festival International de Jazz de Montréal)
She seems so small alongside her double bass, but rarely have we seen a musician as communicative in her playing. The show this musical revelation gives at Gesù is sure to have plenty of magical moments.

Johanne Bougie
Johanne Bougie (Festival International de Jazz de Montréal)
A young double bass player with off-the-charts charisma. Also a composer and vocalist, she couples a finely-honed sense of rhythm with a beautiful voice.

Frédéric Poulin
from Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will attend this concert:

I saw her accompany some big names in jazz on a few occasions. She exudes so much with a double bass in her hands. I’m anxious to see her perform her own material.
