Lee Konitz with Minsarah

Illustrious improvisational saxophonist Lee Konitz finally returns to the Festival—six years after his bravura 2003 appearance, when he presented four different projects for the Invitation series! He’ll be accompanied by Minsarah (Hebrew for "prism"), a creative and experimental American/German/Israeli trio. Together, they created the Deep Lee album, released last autumn to unanimous critical praise. Special music, especially suited to the intimacy of Gesù!

Lee Konitz was one of the principle players responsible for the "Cool Jazz" movement, having played with Lennie Tristano and recorded with Miles Davis on the 1950 "Birth of the Cool" album. Over the years, he has evolved with jazz and is always exploring new styles, including avant-garde. It is a rare opportunity to see 60 years worth of jazz evolution in one player. This is certainly an important concert for the jazz aficionado to check out.
