Le Grand Événement du Maurier Ltée. La Nuit des Gitans

Bratsch, The Rosenberg Trio et Strunz & Farah
When they're not travelling between countries, Gypsies love to get together to celebrate. What could be better than to have them perform for the 15th anniversary edition of the Grand Événement du Maurier Ltée? Three groups that had the 1991 Festival in a frenzy have been brought back for the occasion.

Bratsch will get things going with its original interpretations of Central European Gypsy folk music. These five Frenchmen with the Bohemian hearts are at ease with an impressive number of melodies from a whole slew of countries.

The Rosenberg Trio take over from them: they're a family affair, expertly led by Stochelo, the young prodigy whole acoustic guitar skilfully spews out the diabolical rhythms of Tzigane melodies. Introduced to America by the Festival, the Trio recently paid tribute to Django Reinhardt with none other than Stéphane Grappelli.

The Grand Événement will close with a bang as Costarican and Iranian cultures collide in the explosive duo of Jorge Strunz and Adreshir Farah. Elaborating on themes with a strong percussive content, the two masters coax exotic sounds from their guitars that'll take you to heaven along with all the other Gypsies.
