Galliano

The Grand Événement du Maurier Ltée, past examples of which have brought out to 100,000 fans to cheer on the likes of UZEB and the Pat Metheny Group, is serving up Galliano in 93. This choice concoction of hip hop, jazz, funk, reggae, soul is currently creating a furore in Europe and Japan. Begotten in England, Galliano is headed by DJ-composer-singer Rob Gallagher (as in Galliano), and consists of 15 seasoned musicians (including four singer-DJs) busy laying the ground-work for a new musical subspecies. The nineties being what they are, what's on the menu is the spirit of the times enveloped in a music rich in influence and inspiration; and when the picture's completed by a playful touch married to unbridled rhythms, it's no wonder the press has been waxing extravagant. With a staggering light system, giant video screens, and Ste-Cat transformed into one big wall-to-wall dance floor, there's every reason to expect an urban celebration grand enough to go down in the books as a true happening.
