Spectacle d'ouverture Charlies Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra / Nina Simone

Bass player of the year: Charlie Haden. Jazz album of the year: Dream Keeper by Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra. It's simple: 1991 was the year of American bass player Charlie Haden. So decided the readers of the trendsetting Down Beat magazine who awarded these titles.
In the 50s, Haden made a name for himself as an accompanist for Orette Coleman. Since then, he has been part of all the important movements that have profoundly influenced the evolution of modern jazz. Although he's played with just about everybody, it's as leader of his Libration Music Orchestra that he has contributed his most noteworthy compositions. With his musicians, Haden offers an original interpretation of national anthems and military songs from all over the world. From this emerges what might be called jazz engagé.
On stage with Haden: Joe Lovano, Mick Goodrich, Robin Eubank and many others. Pure, undulterated jazz!

To close this major event, singer Nina Simone. French chanson, African roots, jazz and blues, she has mastered all the forms. Passionate and sophisticated, the great lady of jazz has mastered the piano as well as the voice, giving her a range and a freedom of melodic expression thanks to which she has conquered the world. After an absence of several years from the stage. Simone recently made a remarkable comeback in Europe.
She has now put Montreal on her list for nothing less than the grand opening concert: she is sure to make it an event worthy of this special edition.
