Paul Bley / Gary Peacock / Bill Hart

featuring Joe et Matt Maneri
This time, Paul Bley invites Festival-goers for another promising exchange between musicians: Bley, Peacock, Hart and the Maneris, father and son. Paul Bley has known famed American bass player Gary Peacock since the late 50s, a crucial period in the evolution of jazz. Peacock was then experimenting with the famous Paul Bley trio — they got together several times, notably in 1977 during a tour of Japan and Europe — and was collaborating with Sonny Rollins, Archie Shepp and Jimmy Giuffre; there were also recordings with Jack DeJohnette, Keith Jarrett and others. An astonishing drummer and percussionist, American Billy Hart has earned his medals with the best of them: Wes Montgomery, Sten Getz, Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis to name but a few. This exclusive Festival concert is in fact a merging of talents: Bley with Gary Peacock, Billy Hart and with Joe and Matt Maneri (the father is on sax and clarinet, the son on electric violin), tvvo discoveries Bley is very proud of. Once again, a fitting performance from a native son.
