Une Soirée avec Branford Marsalis

few musicians are invited to the Festival two years in a row. Fewer still are those whose concerts sell out in a flash. Sax player Branford Marsalis is one of these: his concert last year in Montreal sold out in only a few days after it was announced, the same concert that convinced remaining sceptics of his undeniable talent. A Montreal journalist went so far as to say that the Branford Marsalis trio sounded like "the world's best". In the past several years, the New Orleans musician has proved that one can combine tradition with originality. Inventive playing, irresistible charisma, a solid technique, all have made of Branford Marsalis the new phenomenon of American sax players. And we're not talking here of a short-lived idol who temporarily sparkles with prefabricated music, no. You can bet your bottom dollar that Marsalis will be around well into the next century.
