Max Roach Double Quartet

featuring The Uptown String Quartet
Known as one of the greatest soloists in the history of the drums, Max Roach was, with Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker, instrumental in the creation of bebop. Forty years later. the giant continues to surprise us. His polyrhythmic technique is still state-of-the-art and continues to be imitated by all generations. But far be it from him to think about retirement! Max Roach is driven by the unstoppable desire to explore all the new stylistic possibilities to their limits. One of his latest creations, Double Quartet, combines the forces of his traditional combo with those of the Uptown String Quartet. The result is astonishing: Roach has successfully brought together two different types of ensemble, resulting in a highly original symphonic jazz. We would have thought that Max Roach couldn't go much further after having played with Parker, Ellington, Mingus, Davis and the others... well, we'll just have to reconsider.
