In the course of a prolific thirty-year career, virtuoso bassist Charlie Haden helped instigate the free jazz revolution (with the original Omette Coleman Quartet), and proved that political consciousness and good music could indeed go hand in hand (with his Liberation Music Orchestra), and produced momentous recordings (with Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheny, to name but two) that have redefined the role of the bass in contemporary jazz. In addition to being the superbly sensitive and sensual musician downbeat polls have ranked best acoustic bassist for nearly a decade, Haden is the imaginative composer-arranger who recently produced a hot and cool Billboard Top Ten Jazz Album recording with his new quartet. They're both called Quartet West. A class act from a high-class band!
