To find oneself, at 17, a member of the Miles Davis ensemble, is indeed very promising for a jazz musicien. This is what happened to drummer Tony Williams, renowned for the exceptional quality of his playmanship as well as for his adventurous disposition. After a five-year stint with Miles, Tony Williams started to fend for himself in the world of jazz fusion, founding the Tony Williams Lifetime with John McLaughlin and Larry Young. In 1985, his music took a more acoustic orientation. Assisted by a new quintet featuring pianist Mulgrew Miller and trumpet player Bill Pierce, he found himself at the fore of modem jazz. After many tours to the four corners of the world, in Montréal at last!
