Charles Lloyd has always carried with pride the banner of resolutely modem music, and in the sixties, he greatly contributed to its circulation with his group, in which young musicians such as Keith Jarrett, Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock, and Don Friedman played at one time or another. More recently, he performed with Michel Petrucciani in the USA and Europe. Lloyd is especially renowned for his long improvisational flights on tenor saxophone. This is his first appearance at the Festival.
