Illinois Jacquet Big Band

With his celebrated solo in Lionel Hampton's "Flying Home", (1942), Illinois Jacquet created a whole new approach to tenor saxophone, known as the Texas tenor style: a fiery, seething technique; inexhaustible delivery; harsh, compact tones, and a sparkling vibrato. A musician in great demand,he has played, among others, with Hampton, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, and Jazz at the Philharmonic. Since 1950, he has been the leader of different groups, especially the Texas Tenors featuring Arnett Cobb and Buddy Tate. In 1988, he made a comeback on Atlantic, a major label, with his latest album, "Jacquet's got it". Which is true, without a doubt!
