Endowed with a style which combines originality and enthusiasm to a full maturity, Johnny Griffin is recognized as one of the great virtuosos of tenor saxophone. Born in Chicago in 1928, he left the United States for Europe in 1962 and lives presently in the South of France. During his long career, he has perfonned with several other great musicians including Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk, and Kenny Clark. His repertory especially honours the standards.
