Woody Herman and his Young Thundering Herd with Al Cohn

Opening act: Trio François Bourassa
A child prodige of the clarine!, Woody Herman bas devoted his life to music. He does not linger in the past, however. Living very much in the present, and with a keen eye to the future, Mr. Herman continues to seek out new inspiration and surrounds himself with promising new talent. The Thundering Herd, which he has led for the past fourty-odd years, is beyond doubt one of the most  influential big bands in the history of jazz. The great saxophone player Al Cohn began his career in 1943, playing with several orchestras before joining "The Brothers" in 1948. He has composed for a number of singers, collaborated in television shows and Broadway musicals, many of which have been nominated for, or have won, Emmy, Tony, and Grammy Awards. This performance, bringing together Woody Herman, The Thundering Herd and, for the first time on the Festival stage, Al Cohn, will surely refresh the memory of many a bop lover.
