Following a highly successful engagement at the Spectrum where they performed the numbers from their new album, UZEB will deploy their musical technique along with saxophonist Randy Brecker. This quartet has acquired a good reputation as back-up for Biane Tell and Claude Dubois. This will be their third participation in the Jazz Festival, much to the liking of rock-jazz fans who can get an earful of satisfaction on the evening of July 4th.
As opening act for UZEB, we will be hearing Tiger Okoshi on trumpet, a musician who makes regular appearances in Montréal. Gary Burton was the first to hire this Japanese musician. Together they recorded "Times Square" for the E.C.M. label with Steve Swallow, bass and Roy Haynes, drums. After innumerable sessions and engagements, Tiger Okoshi became a professor at the nowfamous Berklee College of Music, known for the diversity of musical styles it teaches students. A great number of graduates are now into rock-jazz, a field in which Tiger Okoshi excels.
