Artist profile(s) :

Enrico Rava , Stefano Bollani

Stefano Bollani and Enrico Rava

Even though 33 years separate them, they are musical and spiritual brothers. The elder, Enrico Rava, is a trumpeter, the younger a pianist. Stefano Bollani was all of 13 when he first attended a concert by the man who would become his teacher, his mentor, his friend. Rava, among the first Italian jazzmen to come to international prominence, would later persuade the young cadet, then at the Conservatorio in Florence, to devote himself to jazz. Together, these two talented Italians have developed a rare symbiosis and a lyricism more evident than ever on their remarkable recent album, The Third Man, released last year.

André Ménard
André Ménard (Festival International de Jazz de Montréal)
My feet are firmly planted in the ground, yet when these two poets pick up their instruments, my heart and mind are transported to Italy, accompanied by their sublime soundscape. I’ll have to leave the Stevie Wonder concert a bit early to catch them, but it’s worth it.
