As esteemed an accompanist (Tiger Okoshi, Michel Donato and Alain Caron are among those who've called on his talents) as he is a soloist, Montreal pianist Thüryn von Pranke has lately bren fronting an acoustic trio whose young rhythm section consists of the bass of Marc Lalonde and Alain Bastien on drums. The three have an album on Effendi calles What's Up?, where a jazz very much based in tradition becomes a jazz that's very much an exploration of new directions.
