Charles Lloyd

For his second Festival appearance in '94, skillful composer and tenor saxophonist Charles Llyod flew solo. This time, he's bringing a crew of four to add broader voicing to his songs, diabolically modern translations of the traditional music of various cultures. Llyod's spiritual quest speaks volumes on The Water Is Wide, the album he launched last autumn. If you join him, expect to savour long, soulful improvisations ripening on the musical vine in their own sweet time.
