Born in Guadeloupe to novelist parents, New Yorker Jacques Schwarz Bart (nicknamed Brother Jacques) refined his chops alongside D’Angelo and Roy Hargrove. His breakthrough in France, Soné Ka La, features guitarist Lionel Loueke and is a synthesis of gwoka and jazz, melding melody and harmony with the rhythms of his childhood. At its heart is Schwarz-Bart’s sax, accented with an array of effects including wah-wah and phaser. A brilliant blend of trad and modern.
