German pianist and composer Nils Frahm is the talk of the avant garde and festival circuit and was one of the revelations of Mutek 2013. Trained in classical music, loves to enhance his music with sonic elements that others might find intrusive (creaking floorboards, crackling static, a toilet brush on the piano strings…) and treats accidents or handicaps as challenges to overcome: for proof, consider that he recorded his project, Screws, while recovering from a thumb injury. The subtle, delicate music of his latest, Spaces, is a delight to the ears. After a sold-out show in L’Astral, the Berlin native takes on Métropolis. Opening the evening, New York band Dawn of Midi unleashes its fascinating, 100% acoustic electro-contemporary jazz.
