The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is happy to announce an exciting benefit concert in two performances, as part of the Jazz All-Year Round series presented by TD: Cheminant vers ma ville on August 8, at 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in the Théâtre Outremont. It’s an invitation to celebrate the legacy of Kate McGarrigle with an unparalleled family reunion assembling, on the same stage, internationally-renowned Montreal musicians Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Jane McGarrigle and Anna McGarrigle, as well as a wonderful array of high-profile local stars including Pierre Lapointe, Robert Charlebois, Michel Rivard, Marie Michèle Desrosiers and Fanny Bloom.
Due to the generosity of the organizers of the Festival and the participation of the artists, the proceeds for this event will go to the Kate McGarrigle Fund, a fund Kate started during the last two years of her life. This fund is administered by the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). Each year, the MUHC awards research grants to scientists hard at work attempting to discover a cure for sarcoma, the cancer that took Kate’s life in 2010.
For this very special occasion, the Wainwright-McGarrigle clan will assemble in Kate’s hometown, Outremont, to celebrate life, love and music. Not only will Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Anna McGarrigle, Jane McGarrigle and all their children be there but also many of the musicians who played with Kate and Anna over the span of their 40 year career—Joel Zifkin, Michel Pepin, Brad Albetta, Tom Menier. The special Canadian guest stars will add that wonderful French Canadian flavor the McGarrigles were so fond of.
