The
Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is happy to announce a new addition to the
Jazz All-Year Round series presented by
TD-the benefit concert
A Not So Silent Night: Christmas with the Wainwrights and McGarrigles. This unique family gathering features such internationally renowned Montreal stars as
Rufus and
Martha Wainwright and
Anna McGarrigle, and is both a musical celebration and benefit for a good cause.
Organizers of the Jazz All-Year Round series will donate all profits from the concert to the Kate McGarrigle Fund, which supports cancer care and research at the McGill Unversity Cancer Centre and the teaching hospitals of McGill University, including the McGill University Health Centre and the Jewish General Hospital. This sole Montreal performance will be presented December 11 at 8 p.m. in Théâtre St-Denis 1, before heading to New York. Tickets go on sale Saturday, October 1 at noon.
For the occasion, the Wainwright-McGarrigle clan will gather as the Kate McGariggle Tribute Band, in tribute to Kate McGarrigle (mother of Rufus and Martha and sister of Anna and singer-songwriter Jane McGarrigle), who died of cancer in January 2010. The group will assemble an inpressive array of artists united in celebration of Christmas: Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Anna McGarrigle, Jane McGarrigle, Chaim Tannenbaum, Joel Zifkin, Brad Albetta, Michel Pépin, Thomas Bartlett, Doug Wieselman, David Berger, Robert Charlebois, Monique Mercure, Chloé Saint-Marie, Michèle Mercure, Lucy Wainwright Roche and special guests.
