Branford Marsalis , Steve Amirault

Branford Marsalis Quartet

Opening Act: Steve Amirault Solo
A multi-faceted saxophone virtuoso and passionate composer, Branford Marsalis is much more than a huge star. Only in his early forties, he is already considered a true jazz legend!  An award-winning musician, notably a two-time Grammy winner, he has let himself be tempted by the movies (composing the original score for Spike Lee's Mo Better Blues, among others), and by the small screen, participating on "The Tonight Show", in the early 90s. As well, "Jeepy" has flirted with pop and hip-hop, rubbing elbows along the way with Herbie Hancock, Tina Turner, Sting, DJ Premier, and more recently, with classical music. Continuing to demonstrate the multi-faceted talent and openness of spirit that characterize him, the extraordinary saxophonist will offer up an unforgettable evening in the intimate venue of the Spectrum. Accompanying him will be the other members of his quartet, Jeff "Tain" Watts on drums, Joey Calderazzo on piano, and Eric Revis on the bass. Opening the first part of the show will be the excellent Steve Amirault, who has given us so many wonderful evenings at the Festival over the past years as the host of the jam sessions, this time playing solo piano.
