First Peggy Lee, then Elvis… now Éric Lapointe, turning
his gutsy voice loose on Fever? Gershwin's Someone to
Watch Over Me rejuvenated by the deliciously youthful voice of Coeur de
pirate? How about Florence K spicing up the already
bewitching I Put a Spell on You? Or Stéphanie Lapointe
reinventing At Last… or Marie-Mai in vintage siren
mode for I've Got a Crush on You? The finest artists on the Quebec
cultural scene breathe new life into the great jazz standards on Nos stars
célèbrent le jazz à Montréal, the
album-event of the 30th anniversary of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
A crew of artists including Michel Rivard, Garou,
Daniel Lavoie and Isabelle Boulay selected a favourite
jazz song with particular personal relevance, each of them marvelously arranged
and produced by Daniel Thouin. Our star singers are joined by such
renowned soloists as Yannick Rieu (My Funny Valentine
performed by Michel Rivard), Ben Charest (Someone to Watch Over
Me performed by Cœur de pirate), Oliver Jones (The Lady
Is a Tramp performed by Ginette Reno), Daniel Thouin
(I've Got a Crush on You performed by Marie-Mai) and Jordan Officer
(Crazy performed by Isabelle Boulay), enhancing the songs with
their respective talents.
Proposed by André Ménard and based on an idea by Jacques-André
Dupont, the album finds Spectra Musique and the Festival International
de Jazz de Montréal on a mission to popularize the jazz classics
to the greater Quebec audience. All indications are: mission accomplished!
