Montreal We Miss You
My wife, Bonnie and I have been to the Montreal Jazz Festival for the past 14 years. It was always a yearly special event for us. we have brought many friends with us to share in the festivities.
Unfortunately, this year we will miss out. Thank goodness for this website to keep us in touch. The economic situation has put a dent in our finances and Bonnie's health has just taken a hit this year. She was diagnosed in the early stages of breast cancer. We have tried to figure out some way to get there this year bur for some reason it was not to be.
We have many fond memories of performers that we did not know before we arrived at the Jazz Fest and we now remain steadfast fans of: 8 1/2 Souvenirs, Zita Swoon, Ruthie Foster and Bet n Stef to mention a few. And then of course we were able to see our long time favorites, namely, Pat Metheny, Tierney Sutton, John Pizzarelli, Kurt Elling, Sophie Milman, McCoy Tyner and Susie Arioli.
We will also miss the convenience of the Hyatt right in the heart of the Jazz Fest with it's great accomodations and wonderful jam sessions late into the night. We have had encounters with many jazz greats...sometimes just by getting into the elevator to go outside...Bill Frissell, Victor Wooten come to mind. Great finds in Montreal also included Jamie Cullum and Nora Jones. We will miss them all this year and hope next year we can start a new string of continuous annual visits to Montreal in the Summer. We looked forward every year for a new t-shirt and the annual CD to bring back to our many friends back home. The food in the kiosks was fun and the variety of the Montreal food experience was unsurpassed. Please enjoy the Festival for us this time around. We look forward to next year
