Half Moon Run
10:30 p.m., TD Stage
Global tours, hundreds of concerts and arrival on the world stage: Montreal group Half Moon Run isn’t just a group of local darlings, they’re leaders of the indie rock scene—heading on for their only concert in Montreal this year and a first visit to the Festival that promises to be memorable. We can’t wait!
Cœur de pirate
8:50 p.m., TD Stage
She conquered Europe and America with her radiant voice, spellbinding presence and irresistibly catchy songs. With a diamond certification for her 2nd album, Blonde, sold-out world tours, a ton of awards including 5 Félix trophies and a Victoire de la musique prize, this artist’s popularity is ever on the rise, and she offers us our only opportunity to see her in her hometown in 2017!
Milk & Bone
7:30 p.m., TD Stage
Nothing less than THE electro-pop revelation of recent years, duo Milk & Bone, formed by Laurence Lafond-Beaulne and Camille Poliquin, have landed on the international stage with spellbinding harmonies, “poignant and dreamlike” music (Libération) and concerts that plunge the audience into a state of suspended wonder. After the massive success of the Little Mourning album and concerts that took them all the way to Los Angeles, the duo leaves the studio exclusively for this special concert.
The Franklin Electric
6:20 p.m., Rio Tinto Stage
They delivered a magisterial free outdoor concert two years ago at the Festival, and packed Métropolis this past spring with an audience of adoring fans. With the vibrant voice of Jon Matte, sensitive, captivating songs and an intelligent pop-folk sound, the group returns home after a world tour that took them from Canada to Oceania and Europe.
Plants and Animals
5 p.m., Rio Tinto Stage
It all began for this Montreal rock trio in 2008, with the success of the Parc Avenue album. Almost a decade later, Plants and Animals continue to build on that popularity with a wide-open sound absorbing influences from Van Morrison to Serge Gainsbourg to Coltrane, music that boasts atypical writing steeped in orchestral rock that weaves intimate moments and exhilaratingly climactic scenes that never leave you.
Urban Science Brass Band
Parade show — TD and Rio Tinto Stages
During every between-band intermission, the city’s hottest brass band will zig and zag across the site spreading great musical vibes: Urban Science Brass Band, a high-voltage horn section with energy to burn, boasting an MC, vocalists and instrumentalists specializing in crazed covers of hip-hop classics. A supercharged musical street-parade experience!
Please also note that Mariepier Morin will MC the concerts on both stages.
In addition, Montreal artist Pony will take charge of the event’s graphic persona. In the space located in front of Place Heineken on Ste. Catherine St., corner of De Bleury, 10,000 badges bearing imagery from her various works will be pinned to a massive 10-metre mural. As the day unfolds, each festival fan can collect a badge, gradually unveiling the names and logos of the groups on the evening’s program as they are inscribed on the mural.
And the party rolls on into the night…
The party rolls on from midnight! Three venues, three different ambiences:
In Place Heineken, Pierre Kwenders takes over the space with his contagiously groovy electro-world, bouncing between R&B, futurist hip-hop and Congolese rumba. Visual artists will also join the party for a live painting session: Monk-e, an iconic figure in Quebec hip-hop equally renowned for his prose and urban painting; Kandolo, an artist at the crossroads of western and Afro-Caribbean cultures.
In Métropolis, the young protégés of Kannibalen Records unfurl a wild electro evening guaranteed to shake the walls: masked trio Black Tiger Sex Machine, famed for their supercharged performances and dark, mordant ambience; DJ Apashe, fusing hardcore, hip-hop, raw energy and crazy samples; and Karluv Klub, electro-trash maven, master of oversaturation and pulsing techno grooves. Hard-hitting.
In L’Astral, a hip hop evening lights up blazing beats in a pair of fiery DJ sets from VNCE Carter (Dead Obies) and High Klassified.
