Yannick Rieu

Origin: France / Quebec, Canada

Main instrument: Saxophone

Genre: Jazz

Originally from France, this saxophonist discovered the Belle Province in the early 1980s and in no time was rubbing shoulders with some of Montreal's top musicians, from Vic Vogel to Bernie Primeau and Jean Baudet. With his own trio, he built up his reputation and confirmed his status as a composer, improviser, and top-notch player. The 2006 Oscar Peterson award recipient, he has a special bond with the Festival, which he played for the very first time back in 1988.
