Cowboy Junkies

Origin: Ontario, Canada

Genres: Pop, Rock

Pairing languid instrumentals with ethereal vocals, the aptly named Cowboy Junkies is a family affair: Along with bassist Alan Anton, guitarist and songwriter Michael Timmins recruited his sister, singer Margo Timmins, and brother, drummer Peter Timmins, to form the cult Canadian band in 1985. The following year, the group launched its own label, Lament, and released Whites Off Earth Now!. Although the recording was originally only available in Canada, word spread quickly and the band's 1988 sophomore effort, The Trinity Session, earned rave reviews and a loyal following. In 2007, with a little help from their friends, the Cowboy Junkies released a "revisited" version of their famous recording.
