Ludovico Einaudi

1955 -

Origin: Italia

Main instrument: Piano

Genre: Classical Music

Born into a prestigious family—his grandfather was president of Italy, his father was an esteemed publisher—Ludovico Einaudi inherited a passion for music from his mother, a pianist and the daughter of an opera conductor. The Turin native completed his training in the Conservatorio Verdi in Milan and under composer Luciano Berio. A regular in the world’s elite concert halls—the Teatro alla Scala (Milan), the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Lincoln Center in New York, the UCLA Centre for Performing Arts—,he moved away from classical music in the mid-’80s to focus on a confluence of eclectic influences, drawing inspiration equally from the Malian kora as from Pink Floyd and Radiohead. Composing for theatre, ballet, multimedia and film, he’s recorded over 20 original soundtracks (including Intouchables and Black Swan) and almost as many albums with a style noted for its minimalism, fusing lightness, refinement and elegance.
