Originally from Colombia, Roberto López arrived in Montréal in 1994. The guitarist and composer attended Concordia University, where he studied jazz. In 2005, he created the Roberto López Project, bringing together musicians from Brazil, El Salvador, Cuba, Ontario and New Brunswick. From the start, the group played at festivals all over Quebec. His first disc, Que pasa?, was released in 2005, followed by Soy Panamericano in 2007 and Azul in 2012. Classified as nu Afro Latin, López's polycultural approach is a happy blend of hip-hop, jazz, electronica and traditional and modern latin rhythms.
