The Hot Sardines

Origin: United States

Genre: Jazz

This jubilant New York jazz-swing group was born after the chance meeting of Parisian ‘Miz Elizabeth’ Bougerol and pianist Evan ‘Bibs’ Palazzo at a jam session. United by their mutual love for the forgotten songs of the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s, the duo surrounded themselves with a powerhouse horn section and a tap dancer to revive the ‘Hot Jazz’ era. Together, they launched their career with a debut concert in a café in Queens, N.Y., moving on to a packed residency in famed venue Joe’s Pub, headlining Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing and opening for the Bad Plus, Lulu Gainsbourg and Zaz. Alternating between original compositions and covers of Django Reinhardt, Édith Piaf, Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller, the group released its first album, Shanghai’d, in 2011 and a Christmas album in 2013 before signing with Decca/Universal Music Classics for a self-titled release in 2014. In 2016, he produced French Fries & Champagne.
