Billy Bragg
1957 -
Origin: United Kingdom
Main instrument:
Vocal
Genres: Folk/Country, Rock
Billy Bragg grew up in Barking, a northeastern suburb of London. His musical journey began in 1977 upon joining punk group Riff Raff. After a short stint in the army, the singer-songwriter embarked on a solo trek in 1982. His first effort, Life's a Riot with Spy Vs. Spy, caught the ear of BBC DJ John Peel. Follow-up Brewing Up with Billy Bragg helped establish his reputation. Drawing inspiration from Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan's socially-conscious brand of folk music, Bragg took on Thatcherite England with barb and wit. A charismatic live performer, he has developed a loyal following around the world. In addition to his artistic endeavours, Bragg dedicates himself to political activism and charity work.
