Colin Stetson
Origin: United States
Main instrument:
Saxophone
Genres: Avant-garde, Jazz
Proficient on bass, tenor and alto saxophone, Colin Stetson also plays the clarinet and the flute. The University of Michigan graduate is renowned for his circular breathing technique-mostly used in contemporary music and free jazz-allowing him to play for long periods without pausing. Although he came to prominence with 2011's New History of Warfaire, Vol. 2, featuring multimedia artist Laurie Anderson, the musician already enjoyed his share of praise from the avant-jazz scene through his work with Transmission, People's Bizarre, and Connector. Other Stetson collaborations include Tom Waits, Fred Frith, and Arcade Fire. At the end of 2011, the Montreal-based artist released the EP Those Who Didn't Run.
