Singer-songwriter Caracol (born Carole Facal) is the daughter of a Uruguayan father and a Swiss mother. She began her musical education at age 5 with violin lessons and studied the instrument for 12 years before setting on a discovery trip around the world in her late teens. It was while travelling across America and Europe that Caracol was first bitten by the songwriting bug. Back in Montréal, she studied sound engineering and performed as back-up singer. In 1998, she hooked up with singer-percussionist Doriane Fabreg. As Dobacaracol, the duo offered a mix of African, South American, and European traditional sounds. Caracol went solo with L'arbre aux parfums in 2008, with Blanc mercredi following three years later.
