Bomata
Origin: Quebec, Canada
Genres: Jazz, World
Bomata blends the musical cultures of three accomplished musicians: double bassist and composer Jean Félix Mailloux, clarinettist Guillaume Bourque, and Ziya Tabassian, tombak and percussion. The trio performs compositions by Mailloux that blend jazz and world music, and have a distinctly Middle Eastern flavour. In addition to Bomata, all three have performed with a wide variety of ensembles. Mailloux is the founder of the Trio Jean Félix Mailloux and Cordâme, Tabassian is a co-founder of Constantinople, with which he has released a handful of albums, while Bourque has an extensive background in classical, jazz and world music, and has recorded with Sagapool. In 2008, the group performed at the Festival and released their first, self-titled album.
