Joel Kerr began studying violin at age 4, switched to cello at 9 and to double bass at 16. He pursued his studies at the University of Regina and the Glenn Gould Professional School in Toronto, and then joined the Regina Symphony Orchestra. He worked in Toronto, Krakow (Poland) and Vancouver before moving to Montréal in 2008 to study Jazz Performance at McGill University, acquiring his master's in Music two years later. His eclectic musical interests led him to join an experimental rock project (Kids Eat Crayons), in addition to forming a classical string ensemble, an experimental klezmer duo and several jazz ensembles. In 2011, The Joel Kerr Quartet launched their debut disc. An active freelancer, he performs, composes, records and arranges for a variety of artists.
