Misses Satchmo

Origin: Quebec, Canada

Genres: Jazz, Swing

Misses Satchmo was started in 2008 by Lysandre Champagne (trumpet, vocals) and Maude Alain-Gendreau (piano). Champagne studied trumpet with Ron Di Lauro and has worked performed and toured extensively with Marco Calliari, while Alain-Gendreau, who studied with jazz pianist François Bourassa, also plays with Broken Nails and Les Garçons. Before long they were joined by Fréderic Pauze (double bass) and Márton Maderspach (drums). The band specializes in 1950s jazz, in particular the repertoire of Louis Armstrong, but also performs the music of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Prima and Cab Calloway, favouring simple arrangements and an old-timey feel. On occasion, the band opens for Quebec storyteller (and Champagne's brother-in-law) Fred Pellerin. The album The Sun Will Shine came out in 2011, followed by Apple Tree two years later.
