Comprised of musicians originating from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, Freshlyground brings together the talents of Zolani Mahola (vocals), Josh Hawks (bass), Peter Cohen (drums), Julio Sigauque (guitar), Seredeal Scheeperts (keyboards), Kyla Rose Smith (violin) and Simon Attwell (flute, saxophone, harmonica, mbira). In 2003, the band released its debut effort, Jika Jika, on its own Freeground Records label. The following disc, Nomvula (2004) was put out by Sony BMG Africa. On disc and on tour, Freshlyground draws more and more listeners with its lively Afro-fusion tunes. In 2010, the group, along with Shakira, recorded the official song for the Soccer World Cup, Waka Waka-This Time for Africa, and released a new album, Radio Africa.
