Lucy Wainwright Roche grew up in New York, in a famous musical family. Instead of following in the footsteps of her parents, Loudon Wainwright III and Suzzy Roche, she initially pursued a career in teaching. However in 2007, after acquiring a master's in education, she decided to go off on tour with her half-brother Rufus Wainwright, who hired her as a back-up singer. Subsequently, she recorded two mini-albums, 8 Songs and 8 More, and opened for Neko Case, the Indigo Girls, Mary Gauthier and The Roches, her mother's group. In 2010, with her family's support, she released the disc Lucy.
