Chantale Gagné

Origin: Quebec, Canada

Main instrument: Piano

Genre: Jazz

Montréal pianist and composer Chantale Gagné learned organ at the age of 8, but switched to piano at 15 after hearing Bill Evans performing on an album. With a passionate interest in piano jazz, she pursued academic studies in jazz performance at CEGEP Marie-Victorin in 1997, and later on studied piano jazz at McGill University. In 2005, she met and studied under pianist Kenny Barron, and a few years later took home the title of "Révélation musique 2008-2009" by Radio-Canada. With performances in New York City and the world over, honing her skills as both sideman and leader, Chantale Gagné self-released her debut album Silent Strenght in 2009, with the help of seasoned performers Peter Washington on bass and Lenny Nash on drums.
