Montreal All City Big Band
Origin: Quebec, Canada
Genres: Big Band, Swing
Founded in 2005 by Christian Morissette, the Montreal All City Big Band is a 19-piece orchestra, featuring musicians aged between 17 and 23. The band consists of five trumpeters, five trombonists, five saxophonists, one pianist, one drummer, one bassist and, finally, one guitarist. Each year, aspiring young musicians are chosen from among a group of students from Montréal's various music schools, and selected candidates must then go through auditions, under the eye of a 4-people jury consisting of professional musicians. With a repertoire consisting of American jazz standards, from Duke Ellington to Glen Miller, and many more, the orchestra performs many concerts every year in Montréal and Québec City, and recently released the album Lulu Hughes and the Montreal All City Big Band (2010).
