Fronted by young piano virtuoso Aron Ottignon, New Zealand's Aronas and their self-described "jazz punk" sounds have been making waves since their acclaimed debut album Culture Tunnels, in 2005. Growing up in a musical family, Ottignon showed his virtuosity at a very young age, winning his first national award at 11 as New Zealand's "Most Outstanding Jazz Musician Under 25", and recording with his own jazz trio at 14. Many awards and accolades later, Ottignon relocated to Australia, and formed Aronas with members Evan Mannell (drums), Josh Green (percussion) and David Symes (bass). Renowned for their energetic stage performances, the band melds an original blend of drum & bass, Latin grooves, Pacific Maori rhythms, punk, blues and many more. A second album is expected for 2010.
